Couples Counselling

Everyone’s relationships are different but sometimes we can face similar issues. Do you take the relationship to the next level? Do you stay together or split up? Maybe you can’t decide whether the time is right to start a family or maybe you find that you can’t have children and that’s affecting your relationship.

Asking for help when your relationship has hit difficulties can be really hard. Even though it can be really helpful to seek outside support or get another perspective, you may feel you can’t talk to your friends or family about what’s happening right now.

Couples counselling provides a safe space for you to discuss your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and to help you make sense of what can often be a confusing and distressing situation. It can give you the support you need while you work out what’s been happening and develop solutions for the challenges you and your partner have been facing.

It maybe you that you only need a couple of sessions to work through a specific issue or find that longer period of time works best for you to help you find a way forward.

Usually both of the couple attend sessions together one a week or once a fortnight. Sometimes, however, people find their partner is reluctant to join them initially and so you can also come on your own.

If both partners attend the sessions they are normally slightly longer that individual counselling and can last up to 90 minutes. Sessions are also usually face to face though couples counselling can also be effective via video conference and telephone.

Psychotherapeutic Counselling Services

Ways of working:

Face-to-face - This is when we meet in person. Face-to-face sessions are currently one of the more popular therapy formats.

Telephone and video conferencing - For some clients, working via the telephone or via video offers an extremely flexible alternative to face-to-face counselling.

IM and e-mail - Some clients prefer to use text rather than to talk. This form of therapy offers you the chance to protect your anonymity. If you opt for e-mail counselling it can give also you time to think through what you wish to discuss, and many find the act of physically writing their issues down cathartic.
